Its hard to explain to somebody who hasn’t had this connection severed. But think of it like this. I’m sure your quite proud of your people, your family and their accomplishments. You probably say where you from with pride, like most people do.

Now imagine being in a room full of ppl talking about their ancestry and the best you can say is “my ppl come from georgia”, knowing damn well that they don’t.

I’ve had the conversation before and you can sense everybody’s discomfort when it comes time for you to answer….I’ve felt the shame and the empty feeling inside, the urge to know.
